714.0. "Question: references on error correcting codes for image data transfer?" by 2607::STONECYPHER (Only one hope) Wed Feb 27 1991 16:30
Hello,
I apologize if this has already been discussed.
I am interested in learning about forward error correcting codes NASA uses for
transmission of image data from space probes. Does anyone have any references
which describe NASA (or other ESA, etc.) error-correcting techniques for
bulk data transfer?
I know that Voyager uses Reed-Solomon encoding, and that the Deep Space Network
will soon have the capability to do run-time decoding of Reed-Solomon
encoding. I am interested to see if there's anything published about the
Voyager's algorithms, and also what techniques are used by other space systems.
I have general references for Reed-Solomon encoding.
