692.0. "Shuttle Update Survey" by PRAGMA::GRIFFIN (Dave Griffin) Mon Jan 07 1991 19:14

I would like to get a little bit of feedback from the readership.

There are times during space shuttle launches which approximate a "lull"
in the action. During this time the work on the shuttles is rather mundane
("this attached here, this taken apart there, etc.").

Would you prefer to only have "interesting" reports during these lulls
(where interesting is up to me) or maintain the near daily reports on
on shuttles?

All information would be available in files on my system, so you could
get the reports if you really wanted them -- but I sometimes feel like
I'm filling this file up with rather dull reports at times. [Once a
bird is on the pad, then things are almost always interesting.]

I'd like your input on this. Please reply via mail (pragma::griffin) and
express your opinion. [I especially like to hear what the hosts of this
conference have to say -- it is their disk space.]

Thanks,

- dave

692.1I like 'em! (Thanks!)8713::J_BUTLERUSAR...and ready...Tue Jan 08 1991 11:369
    I like the "mundane" reports. I fills in some of the less glamorous
    stuff and makes the whole process more understandable and real.

    Unless filing these reports interferes with your DEC work, I'd
    like to see them continue!

    And, by the way, THANK YOU for your efforts!

    I agree with [.1]. the reports may get a little dry in technical
    content but at least you know where the shuttle stands in preparation
    for flight. If it is not an interference to your job please continue.

    	I share the feelings of the previous noters. Then again my tastes
    in reading material (e.g. technical reports, papers, textbooks on
    astronautics, etc.) is considered rather twisted by some anyway. If
    there are no problems otherwise, please continue the postings.

Disk space is not a concern for now and I agree with the previous replys.

Dave Dave Dave Dave Dave ... please continue the postings. Your concern for our
"boredom level" is noted and apprecitated. But heck, we're space nuts here!
Torquing the bolts on my car's engine block is boring...torquing the bolts on
the SRB-ET brackets is neat! :-)

692.8"Exit polling" results...PRAGMA::GRIFFINDave GriffinWed Jan 09 1991 13:2617
I'm guessing most of the votes are in. The preliminary numbers
are:

   Keep everything flowing:   10
   Don't care that much:       1
   Post interesting stuff:     7

One person suggested that a weekly summary might be more appropriate for
the "routine" operations. Just about everybody was unanimous that once
a shuttle leaves for the pad, they wanted to know everything (which is
what I planned to do anyway).

Thanks for your opinions on this. If you haven't expressed
an opinion, please do so -- as you can see the readership is
somewhat divided on this.

692.9Yes and Farewell60608::MANSFIELDThu Jan 10 1991 21:4117
    I just next unseen if I'm in the mood for a bolt torque, but a weekly
    summary would be good for a number of the routine stuff.

    Not that it matters to me that much as it is goodbye soon.

    Yes that fearful day we all have is nearly here, no more VIKA::SPACE
    for this one, I'm off to Japan to live. I'll just have to survive on
    my bi-monthly hit of Janes International Space Markets.

    But I wish you all well and hope as we all do that the industry keeps
    on going upwards and that the next decade and the new century bring a
    real space economy to the world and all that it will mean for the
    future of our people and the planet.

    Farewell and enjoy VIKA::SPACE
