I like it. BTW Note 237 discusses naming the 5th space shuttle.

| Confirmed. It is 'Endeavour', the name of the ship (I think it
was a bark) in which Capt Cook explored much of the South Pacific. For
obvious reasons, you learn a lot about Cook if you grow up in
Australia.
You guys will have to learn to spell in English for this one :-)

535.4 | Name not yet official? | VINO::DZIEDZIC | | Fri May 12 1989 09:07 | 5 |
| The article I read in "Ad Astra" said that while Endeavour was
the most-commonly chosen name, it was not yet the "official"
name, and that the "official" name wouldn't be decided for
several months yet. Did this change, or did some newshound
decide the most-common name was therefore the official name?

| Its official as of Wednesday, according to Spacelink (the NASA BBS).
SOme of the news services carried it, and it was also on NASA update
yesterday (Thursday).

535.6 | The ship's got a good name... | LUDWIG::PHILLIPS | Music of the spheres. | Fri May 12 1989 13:47 | 10 |
| I'm delighted!
"Endeavour", besides being the name of CPT Cook's vessel, was also
used to name the Apollo 15 CSM (I believe...). Sci-fi buffs will
also remember it as the research ship from Arthur C. Clarke's
novel "Rendezvous with Rama."
An excellent choice!

535.7 | It has something in common with "Challenger" | JANUS::BARKER | Jeremy Barker - Reading, England | Fri May 12 1989 19:35 | 5 |
| "Endeavour" is also appropriate for the "Challenger" replacement as both
were names of (British) Royal Navy ships. (All the orbiters are named
after US or British navy ships used for exploration/oceanography.)
