350.0. "INTELSAT VI Launch On a PROTON?" by MONSTR::HUGHES (Walk like an Alien) Tue Sep 29 1987 11:47
The recent Boston L5/NSS newsletter mentioned a rumour that Intelsat
have signed up to launch an Intelsat VI on a Soviet Proton launch
vehicle.
The rumour was printed in Analog by G Harry Stine, who has been
known in the past to overreact to the perceived 'red menace'.
The first Intelsat VI has been recently powered up. It will be the
largest comsat in orbit, and probably will hold that record for
some time. The following generation of Intelsats will be smaller.
If the rumour has any truth to it, it should have some interesting
scuffles with the US export restrictions.
