In a recent addition of OMNI, I saw an ad for a publication called
COUNTDOWN, a monthly magazine "devoted solely to coverage of the Space
Shuttle." Does anyone out there have any information on this publication.
It sounds like it might be very interesting, but I hate to spend $15 for
nothing. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx in advance!

I recently subscribed to it. It seems reasonably informative but a bit
cutesy. The last issue I got had some air-to-ground transcripts of the SMM
repair activities along with an analysis of the failure to grapple, etc.
I would rate it "good" but not better.

A similar newsletter which I would recommend more is World Spaceflight News.
It had lots more dialog and was much more professional. It has lots of
interesting data. The current issue says a 1 year subscription is $30 but
the ad in Space Digest said $25 and that's what I paid. It's

Since I did my university studies in Astronomy & Physics
I have a great interest in Space Systems in general and a publication
like World Spaceflight News sounds good. However since my location
is in Geneva, Switzerland I have trouble getting my hands on american
magazines such as this. Could somebody let me know either by mail
- VAXmail GVADG1::MIDASDEV - or in a response who publishes this
magazine (and where) so I can contact them for a Subscription form ?

	Thanking my helper in advance,

I too subscribed to it and have difficulty giving the publication top
ratings. I often find typos and other flaws which would be corrected
by more thorough proof-reading. These are minor points, but they can
be distracting and they detract from the impression one get from the
publication.

Dollar for dollar, Aviation Week is a far better value, it has more
Shuttle news, and is much more professional. Still, I guess I will
continue subscribing to Countdown...
