If anyone has a question as to the validity of a newsgroup in the Big 8 hierarchies, (comp, humanities, misc, news, rec, sci, soc, talk), you should read the articles in news.announce.newgroups or news.groups. The following subjects are posted there on a regular basis. Bogus Usenet Groups Current Status of Usenet Newsgroup Proposals New Usenet Groups In a recent posting, the rec.radio.commercial-lmr newsgroup made the bogus list. In particular, look for article <[email protected]>. If your newsreader software cannot lookup articles by message id, then you can get the article by doing: telnet your-favorite-news-server 119 article <[email protected]> quit Stapes ([email protected]) |
