If you could afford the downtime, you can certainly swap the adapters between
the 8400 and the 400, then rerun the firmware update utility on the 8400.
There's no connection between the DEFPA on-board firmware and the host
platform.
Alternatively, a DOS-based firmware upgrade utility is available electronically

if you have access to an Intel-based machine with PCI slots, and a DOS bootable
