A client is comparing the speed of ethernet and FDDI is the same when a

What O/S? Many do not the resolution to show the difference in speed. Secondly, sending a 512 bit message is 51.2us on Ethernet and 6.4us on FDDI (excluding token acquisition time). That will get lost in the protocol processing time to handle the echo request/reply.

Many [ping implementations] do not [have] the resolution to show the difference in speed.
