2212.0. "DECconcentrator 500 LED States" by SWAM1::DITTEMORE_LE () Fri Jan 31 1997 13:32

    I have a client who has implemented an FDDI solution using
    DECconcentrator 500s. There has recently come some confusion on the
    meaning of the LED staus indicators. Specifically, they want to know
    what colors will light while the token is regenerated. This has come
    about due to a nonDEC router failing. The router has a requirement to
    be the "master" node (I am not sure wxatly what he means by this) and
    they want to be able to detect this at the concentrator.

    Is there a manual I can get on-line that describes the LED states? Any
    help appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Leo

    I don't know where you'd get any documents on line, they may be
    in the format EK-DEFCN-xx, DECCONCENTRATOR 500 IPB - EK-DEFCN-IP
    is still in VTX (PS = problem solving, TD = technical description,
    I don't know what that one is.

    The connection needs to be established, LCT completed and station
    information exchanged, before a token can be generated. The led
    state will be green.

    Led state:

    off : Port disabled my management or firmware
    flashing green : Waiting to connect
    green          : Connection is established
    flashing red   : Unsupported configuration
    red : Link Confidence Test (LCT) or selftest failure

    forgot one,

    flashing red/green : The port is backup mode for dual homing.

    Thanks for the quick reponse. Your table will probably answer their
    questions.

2212.4Ring Operational KLED?SWAM1::DITTEMORE_LEThu Feb 06 1997 13:3911
    A couple of more questions about the LEDs came up. On the DEC500
    Network management card there is a Ring Operational (RO) LED. Is it
    possible for the RO LED to be extinguished with either of the Port A
    or B LEDs flashing Green, solid green, or even Red? Client's understanding
    is that the RO LED indicates network activity, token being passed.
    Therefore when the LED is out , the token is not being passed. Is this
    correct?

    Thanks for you help,

    That's the correct indication as I know, when RO led is out no network
    activity, and no token being passed.
