2117.0. "How router works on FDDI ?" by HGOM26::WILLIAMBAI () Thu Aug 22 1996 22:27
Hello,
I have a queston about routing in FDDI,
PE Switch 900TX
| DEC Switch 900EF (DEFBA-MA)
--------- 900MX ____
| | | |==================| |
IP Class 1-|- | | | FDDI | |------------ IP Class 1
IP Class 2-|- | | | | |------------ IP Class 2
IP Class 3-|- | | | | |------------ IP Class 3
IP Class 4-|- | | | | |------------ IP Class 4
| | || | | |------------ IP Class 5
-----+--- | |------------ IP Class 0
| | ----
| |
| |
| ----- CISCO Router-- IP Class 0
|
DEC Switch 900EF MP Router
(DEFBA-DA)
We have a DEFBA-DA MP router which 6 segments IP Class 1-6 are
assigned, FDDI connect to backplane , meanwhile a remote 900EF
Switch (only) DEFBA-MA (Standalone) connect to the Ring through 900 MX.
A Cisco router is connected to the PESwitch 900 TX(IP Class 0).
Here is my question:
If I give the Switch 900EF IP Class 1-5 addresses, can these segments
route OK throuth 900EF MP roter ?
More important, can all of the nodes access to IP Class 0 ?
To the IP Class 1-5, can route messages go through FDDI to Class 0 ?
How these works, to my knowledge, no IP can assigned to FDDI, can
CISCO router in this case automaticlly pick up the tags from the ring ?
Many thanks .
William B.
