2100.0. "FDDI analyser - which one to choose ?" by GIDDAY::STANISLAUS () Sat Aug 03 1996 10:38
We finaly got some money to buy an FDDI analyser for our CSC. I
read note 112, but couldn't make any conclusion on which FDDI analyser
to choose - Network General's Sniffer or W&G's DA30 or HP's Network
Advisor or something altogether different.
What I am specically looking in order of prefence are:
1)Ease of use - Friendly User interface. Don't mind reading thick
manuals on how to use, as long as the manuals are good and have good
examples.
2)Able to detect problems on the ring, such as beaconing, stuck
beaconing, source of such problems. Aslo detect problems where many
nodes (or all nodes) in a ring log RING INIT RECEIVED counts, but no
node logs RING INIT INITIATED counts.
3)Protocol Decodes (TCP/IP and DNA and OSI)
4)Ring Utilisation and Performance Monitoring
5)Traffic Generation on FDDI ring
6)Easy to transport (although not a big issue)
7)Distributor in Australia (I can find that one, once I get some
recommendations).
Alphonse
To let you know my desire - I like the HP4972A for Ethernet. I am
looking for something as good or better for FDDI.
