2081.0. "DEFPA and Decnet line FPA-0" by COMICS::WARDJ () Mon Jul 08 1996 11:37

    Hello,

    A customer has a DEFPA installed in a Alpha running VMS V6.1-1h2,
    Decnet iv was running using fwa-0 line & circuit names. The customer
    then upgraded to VMS V6.2 & then VMS V6.2-1h2.

    After doing this, when they tried to "set line fwa-0 state on" in ncp
    they got the following error:-

    "invalid identification format name"

    I got the customer to re run netconfig and the commands that were run
    in this file were using "FPA-0" as the line & circuit type.

    After using this name (FPA-0), Decnet started ok.

    Does anyone know where this line & circuit name are picked up from?
    Has it changed in the later versions of VMS?

    Any help appreciated.

    Regards,

The DEFPA wasn't supported in V6.1 (although an unsupported driver
was given out for people desperate to use the DEFPA).

2081.2What about V6.1-1h2?COMICS::WARDJThu Jul 11 1996 06:4818
    Thanks for the reply Dick,

    Was it supported in VMS V6.1-1h2 ?

    From stars, it shows the following:-

    System Type Bus Controller Driver Circuit/Line

                   PCI      DEFPA      SYS$FWDRIVER        FWA-0

    But netconfig picked up the circuit/line type of FPA-0 and I wondered
    if this could have been changed in some way by the customer, and if so
    where.

    Regards,

It looks like it was supported there. But the correct circuit name wasn't
selected until V6.2.
