We have an ALPHA2100a running OpenVMS 6.2 and Pathworks Vs. 4.2. the Pathworks piece is crashing at peak usage times of the day. The NIC is a dual head PCI based FDDI (DEFPA-BA??). One thing I suspect is that the second connector on the FDDI does not have a physical connection or valid loopback. Could this be my problem? Regards, Tom Kurtz -MCS

The FDDI PCI dual attachment station (DAS) multimode fiber optic adapter is the DEFPA-DA. >>connector on the FDDI does not have a physical connection or valid loopback. >>Could this be my problem? No. With only one port attached, the adapter will be in a wrapped state. However, this is a low level FDDI function which doesn't impact OpenVMS or PATHWORKS. In fact, the OpenVMS driver doesn't know whether the card is single or dual-attached or whether only one of the dual-attached ports is connected. Verify with OpenVMS engineering that you're running that latest DEFPA driver. I know there was a patch made after 6.2 shipped. You may want to crosspost in the PATHWORKS conferences, as well. - Larry | |||||

Larry, Thanks for your response. The problem appears to have been solved. MAC Pathworks For DOS Vs. 1.3 was installed after VMS Pathworks For DOS Vs. 4.2 w/ ECO8. The MAC S/W tread over the NETBIOS.SYS file originally installed with VMS Pathworks. MAC Vs. 1.3 uses NETBIOS.SYS Pathworks Vs. 5.0. You have at least put my mind at ease for future installs using dual-attachment DEFPA's. Tom Kurtz -MCS |
