Hi I would like know if it's possible to run 40km single mode fiber with DECconcentrator 900 MX using SMF-PMD. Could it be dual-ring or ring with only primary connection? rgds Pauli Leino

Our DEFXS-BA SMF modpmd will run 40km over single-mode fiber. The pmd will function in any of the 6 slots, so you can configure the SMF port as part of a dual ring, or as as SAS port. Our optical power budget maximum is 22 dB. If you keep the cable plant loss (including patch panel connections, splices, etc) under 22 dB, the link will run just fine. Our product also has a minimum loss requirement of 12 dB. Let me know if you have additional questions. Regards, Dick Kirk Network Product Support | |||||

You said that I can configure the SMF port as part of a dual ring. Do you mean that if I have two DECconcentrator 900MX 40 km apart from each other I can create dual ring between those DECconcentrators using DEFXS-BA SMF modpmd. I have heard about class 1 and class 2 FDDI components. Which one is DECconcentrator 900MX and what these classifications mean. Thanks for your quick reply Regards, Janne Kytomaki |
