2007.0. "PCI FDDI DAS MIC interface?" by ASABET::nqsrv141.nqo.dec.com::Zitelman.Jeff () Fri Apr 05 1996 13:45

Could someone please tell me what this part is? It is in AQS.
I need a PCI FDDI DAS interface which supports MIC, not SC.
I need this because my customer has standardized on MIC and
has servers from many vendors and has prewired for MIC for
all vendors.

 DEFPA-DD        32B EISA FDDI NIC W/DAS MIC    SPECIAL          N/A

DECsale did inform me that I can get a DEFPA-DA with a 1 meter
SC to MIC cable and use a third party bulkhead adapter to connect
two MIC cables together.

The third party is South Hills Datacom @ 1-800-245-6215. The part
number is 315-07L, approx $12.00 each, FDDI to FDDI M/S bulkhead.

I'd rather go the DEFPA-DD route because it is cleaner.

Please give your advice.

Thanks,

Jeff

    I don't know where this part # came from, but it's a mistake. There is
    no MIC transceiver variants for the FDDI PCI cards.

    Your customer will have to purchase a DEFPA-DA and order two SC-MIC
    cables and two MIC-MIC female to female connectors to make the DEFPA-DA
    "look" like it comes with MIC transceivers.

    If you have further questions on the cables, contact John Buzynski
    (NETCAD::BUZYNSKI) who is the DEFPA/DEFEA Project Manager. He can tell
    you more about those cables.

2007.2What does "prewired for MIC" mean?STEVMS::PETTENGILLmulpFri Apr 26 1996 02:559
Are you saying that they have cables with MIC connectors dangling from the
wall or the cable trays?

Or are you saying that they have standardized on MIC connectors for their
distribution boxes?

If the latter, then all they need is a MIC to SC cable which is a standard
part: BN34D-xx. My only complaint is that there's no 4E varient (4.5 meters).
xx is -01 (1 meter), -03 (3 meters), and -10 (10 meters).

    Prewired in this case likely means that they have cables terminating
    with MIC male connectors and dangling from the wall.

    As you suggested, if the wall box is a MIC female receptacle, then all
    they need to do is order a standard MIC-SC cable to attach to a DEFPA.

    The answer as to whether or not there are DEFPA variants with
    MIC female connectors is NO.
