1998.0. "TRT configurable on a DEFEA?" by SNOFS1::KHOOJEANNIE (Humpty Dumpty was pushed) Wed Mar 27 1996 01:55

Can you set the TRT on a DEFEA???

This was asked today by a customer (Microsoft), and I can't find any
reference to it in the DEFEA documentation ...

    Thanks

You can't change the TRT (Token Rotation Time), but you *CAN* change
the requested TTRT (target TRT). The difference is that the TRT is a
function of all the nodes on the ring. During the claim process, the
lowest bidder wins. It's not a given that it will be you if there are
    other nodes with lower values.

Anyway, if Microsoft is running the NDIS 3 driver on Windows NT or
    Windows 95, there's a RequestedTTRT settable object with a range of 4
to 165 milliseconds. The default is 8 milliseconds, but they can
change it, reboot the system and the driver will program the adapter
with the new value. Let me know if they can't find the switch.

Hope this is what they were looking for.

    Thanks very much Larry

Can you tell me where the switch is for the TTRT?

Is this an object in the NT registry?

    >>Is this an object in the NT registry?

Yes, but they don't need to use the Registry Editor. If they go under
Control Panel\Network Settings, highlight the DEC FDDIcontroller/PCI
adapter, then select Configure, they'll see the dialog box that
    appeared during installation.

Once the dialog box appears, you'll notice that there's a option for
changing the Requested TTRT. The range is 4-165 ms. and the default is
    8. The value can be changed from the default, then OK can be selected to
leave the dialog box, then Network Settings. When prompted, reboot the
system and the driver will program the adapter with the new value.

That's all there is to it. No need to go into the Registry. By the
way, if the driver is removed, then reinstalled, they'll have to go
back into the dialog box to change the setting again.

    Regards,
       Larry
