Enough things likely changed from SP1 to SP2 that I don't know what
could be causing this. Now that SP4 just got released, you may want to
suggest that your customer install SP4 on one or two of the problem
systems and see if things get better.

1995.2 | DEFPA-DA's hanging on Alpha VMS V6.2 w/DECnet IV | NPSS::MAJIKAS | | Mon Mar 25 1996 14:09 | 8 |
| Boeing is having what seems to be the same problem with DEFPA-DA's
hanging. They are running Alpha VMS 6.2 with DECnet Phase 4. Could this
be the same problem? Should they try SP4 also? If so, what is the best
way to get a copy?
Thanks,
Dennis

| Huh? SP4 is WNT service pack 4 which will does not run on VMS.

| Additional information:
a) they have been able to reproduce this problem with an Intel box.
Again, the problem occurs when NT is upgraded from SP1 to SP2.
b) re: .1 Thanks for the pointer, but he has tried SP4 and this does
*not* fix the problem.
Any other ideas? This customer is close to throwing away all his
DEFPA's (and probably demanding his money back), and he has over
30 of them.

Jim

What's making him point to the DEFPA? Is the green LED on the back of
the DEFPA off? That would indicate that the adapter halted or the
driver was unloading by the system. Are there any messages in the
event viewer around the time this happens? Is the customer running any
particular kind of SW when the problem occurs?

| I notice there is a new DEFPA.SYS in SP4. Can someone enumerate the
new changes in this version?
Thanks Jim

| An update: this customer has taken off the Service Packs, and has
again been presented with this problem.
Basically, what happens is that IP and IPX stop functioning, while
everything else (Netbeui, Appletalk) continues running. An error is
generated saying something along the lines of "problem encountered,
continuing...".
I will get far more involved of the details of this problem this
week...stay tuned...

| This problem has been rectified by applying a hotfix from Microsoft.
The problem apparently was related to ARP cache parameters.
Just fyi...
