1989.0. "FDDI adapter isn't automatically configured ..." by MUNICH::STUMFOLL () Wed Mar 20 1996 04:40
A customer has an AlphaStation 250 4/266, which is a member of a mixed
architecture Cluster (VAX's and AXP's). The machine boots from its own system
disk (OpenVMS V6.1-1H2) and has FDDI and Ethernet adapter.
If the machine comes up, the SCA protocol runs ONLY over Ethernet, but NOT
over FDDI. Afterwards, we can use the program SYS$EXAMPLES:LAVC$START_BUS.MAR
to run SCA protocol over FDDI.
Why is the FDDI adapter not automatically configured at boot time? What can
cause this problem? Has anyone an idea?
Note: There's also an entry from me on CSSE32::CLUSTER conference concerning
this same problem.

| i guess you are using the PCI adapter ( DEFPA )
there are articles in both this notesfile and TIMA covering
its use with openvms 6.1 and for cluster you've got to start it
"manually"
cluster "autoconfiguration" is fully supported from openVMS 6.2 ;
i have a customer with a working configuration with DEFPAs cards
on satellites ; only the boot doesnt work but its another story

Thats right. So where it was started 'manually', I assume by an
MC SYSMAN command put into systartup_vms.com, is just before the
LAVC$START_BUS should be put.
