UUU: Major problems on SLS performance after raising NISCS_MAX_PKTSZ -------------------------------------------------------------------- We have raised NISCS_MAX_PKTSZ from 1498 to 4468 on all nodes in our cluster (Recommendation in HS121 Installation Guide). Now we experience very long backup times for our SLS backups (i.e. many hours for one disk which was finished within 20 minutes earlier). which means that we are not able to finish our backup! Before raising NISCS_MAX_PKTSZ there were not any performance impacts on the backup process. configuration ------------- NISCS-Adapt. | SI0001 | VAX 6000-640 | VMS V5.5-2 DEMFA V2.0 | HSJ007 | HSJ4 | HSJ V27J | | HSJ003 | HSJ4 | HSJ V27J | | HSJ008 | HSJ4 | HSJ V27J | | HSJ009 | HSJ4 | HSJ V27J | | HSC014 | HS70 | HSC V820 | | HSC006 | HS70 | HSC V820 | | HSC015 | HS70 | HSC V820 | | HSC013 | HS70 | HSC V820 | | HSC023 | HS70 | HSC V820 | | HSC022 | HS70 | HSC V820 | | SI0005 | VAX 7000-630 | VMS V5.5-2 DEMFA V2.0 LRPSIZE 4541 | SI0018 | VAX 6000-620 | VMS V5.5-2 DEMFA V2.0 LRPSIZE 4541 | SI7599 | ALPH HS121 1. Well, this is probably the wrong notesfile anyway, but I'll take a stab. The obvious is that you don't list NISCS_MAX_PKTSZ for your OpenVMS VAX systems. If you don't raise this, and the Ethernet and FDDI are bridged like they're supposed to be, it means you're going thru the bridge. Second, trying to get this problem solved will be tough. You have connected 5.5-2 system to 6.2 system and I don't believe this is a WARRANTED solution which means Colorado's fix to the problem before they'll look at this problem is for the VAX systems to be upgraded to V6.2. Also, with 5.5-2 there were some peculiar problem with the DEMFA driver. If you want the 5.5-2 system to possibly work, make sure you've installed all the patches which are available. |
