Just curious:
We have on an AXP 3 FDDI ports, one HW addr 08-00-2B and 2 slots
with 00-00-F8.
Are we out of range with LAN addres block 08-00-2B ?

The following Protocol Identification code blocks have been assigned to
  DIGITAL from IEEE.
  08-00-2B-xx-xx
  00-00-F8-xx-xx
NOTE: Out of the OUI 00-00-F8, the entire range of possible Protocol Ident-
ifiers have been assigned by Digital tp IEEE 802. Consequently. "no"
Protocol Identifier assignments may be made from that block.

| Hi Raymond, I believe that there is one address 00-00-F8-00-00-00 which is used as "ANSI FDDI SMT - used to represent "address unknown"". The rest of the 00-00-F8-xx-xx-xx addresses belong to Digital exactly the way 08-00-2B-xx-xx-xx belong to Digital. We are shipping lots of adapters with 00-00-F8 address block assignments. > NOTE: Out of the OUI 00-00-F8, the entire range of possible Protocol Ident- > ifiers have been assigned by Digital tp IEEE 802. Consequently. "no" > Protocol Identifier assignments may be made from that block. This should read: NOTE: Out of the OUI 00-00-F8, individual assress 00-00-F8-00-00-00 has been assigned by Digital to ANSI (for use with FDDI). All other individual addresses from that block, and all multicast addresses, remain available for assignment by Digital. Regards, Chuck | |||||
