1974.0. "Can Vax4100A or VAX4106 boot over FDDI as satellites" by RIVOLI::MENICACCI () Wed Mar 06 1996 03:46

	Hi,

this question was cross posted in conference Microvax (4256).

A customer has an HS111 and wants to use it as a boot node for his VAXes
(VAX4000-100 and VAX4000-106).

These are only connected to FDDI (no ethernet connection).

Will it work ? What would be the minimum OpenVMS or firmware version ?

I read topic 1205 :

>
> I know of no plans for the system groups to write a boot driver for
> the DEFQA - even for the new Q-bus systems that just came out.

But it was 2 years ago.

Has it changed ?

Thanks for any input,

Maria.

here is an extract of the SPD VAXcluster V6.2

The following five adapters do not support satellite MOP booting: PMAD,
DEMFA, DEFQA, DEFZA, DEFTA. Satellite CPUs that include these adapters
must MOP boot using another adapter type. This typically is achieved
via the integral system adapter. Once the satellite CPU is booted us-
ing the integral adapter, VAXcluster communications are enabled on the
LAN adapters listed in Table 2.

There is no VAX FDDI boot support for any FDDI adapter. And the probability
of boot support ever is about 0%.
