We are involved in networking of a data processing center for 
processing remote sensing data. The network will have eight(8)
Digital Alpha workstations (running Digital Unix) and 2 HP
work stations forming a FDDI ring. A Lanplex 2500 ethernet
switch from 3-COM is also in the FDDI ring. The HP workstations
are 9000/785 with HP UX Ver 9.03. Each of these work stations also
have their local ethernet segments where some X-terminals are
connected.

The HP workstations have ethernet module on the mother board. The
EISA bus of the HP has been extended using Expander box EX-700. 
A EISA FDDI interface module 4811 is installed in the expander box. 
This interface forms part of the FDDI ring.

Now the requirement is to use simultaneously the FDDI ring and also
the local ethernet segments for data transfers. But while we have no 
problem for this with HP work stations, we have a problem on Digital
Workstations. To use it it appears that the Digital workstations has 
to be configured as a router for handling both local ethernet segment 
and the FDDI ring.  We want to know how to set this up in the 
Digital Workstations.
