1962.0. "DEFPA-DA technical docs, driver code etc." by MQOOA::LEDOUX (Vincent -- DTN 632-7908) Tue Feb 20 1996 18:59

For an important "foot in the door" of the most profitable
real flight simulator company in the world (CAE), I need to get
in-depth technical info on the DEFPA-DA, as well as the
driver code, so they can port it to their current platform.

If we can show them that we can provide these, we may have
a chance of getting this very profitable business.

Where can I get information necessary to get our DEFPA-DA
working on other platform (driver code Unix type, internal
    registers bits etc...)

    Who should I contact?

Any help would profit Digital, thus all of us.

    Thanks,

    Vince.

Does their flight simulator run under Windows NT? :-)

You're in luck. By being first (and best) in the PCI FDDI market,
we've created quite a successful OEM business for our DEFPA adapter
line. We have all of the documentation, sample source code, and
(hopefully) technical know-how to help your customer.

Please contact the following folks to get the ball rolling:

Ron Steffero (DELNI::RONSTEFFERO) - OEM Business Manager
George Nielsen (DELNI::G_NIELSEN) - DEFPA Product Manager

    Hi Larry,

Their flight simulator weight dozens of tons, are the size of a house
and cost a couple million $. They use hydrolics to move and are
bought by all major airline companies. If you are interested,
give me your line of credit number, I can have a 747 simulator
shipped to your own hangar... ; >) Although they don't usualy
    mail order...

    Seriously,
Thanks for the tips. I will definitely contact those peoples.

    	Have a good day...

Sounds like something from "Iron Eagle"...

    Hi Larry,

    re:-.1
    > Sounds like something from "Iron Eagle"...

I have not seen Iron Eagle, but those flight sims are the exact
replicas of most common aircraft carriers cockpits, with real 3D
screens. I have no idea how they get the 3d effect without special
glasses but it is great. At one point a while ago, one computer failed
and was causing the simulator to move at the maximum velocity
the hardware could give. While they were troubleshooting, they
did not realize a test pilot was inside. He came out OK with
only a bleeding nose and blood all over the cockpit...

They also make fighter jet simms, but as they cannot go beyond
1 G, the simulator do not move, the pilot wears a special
suit with fluid injected pockets all over the suit that makes
him feel over 1G force acceleration. I have not been into
one of those (sigh!). HighTech stuff.

Anyway, this is FDDI notesfile, again thanks for the info.

    Vince.
