1924.0. "DECpc XL Server 466" by NETRIX::"[email protected]" (Kelvin Wong) Tue Jan 09 1996 09:48

Has anyone applied FDDI on DECpc XL 466?

Problem:
The customer wants to use 3COM FDDIcontroller/EISA with DECpc XL Server 466
but all PC clients will be disconnected in a few hours. Netware server looks
like hang (from monitor menu, lan information number of sent and receive
packets stop, not increase) and the server needs to reboot.

We observed that :
- The customer used 3COM UTP card on DECpc XL Server 466 before applying FDDI,
 and the server worked fine.

- The customer applied the same FDDI card on HP server, it worked fine.

- Tried DEC FDDIcontroller/EISA DEFEA with fekit240.zip and fefw240.zip,
the same problem still existed on DECpc XL but the HP server has no problem.
The same hard disk was used for testing to isolate the software/driver issue.

- The problem can be reproduced by running the netware command VOLINFO on
7 clients, update interval time = 1. Error message : "General network drive
fail". The CPU utilisation was not high, only 10% to 15%.

Configurations:
DECpc XL Server 466
BIOS ver 1.22
16MB RAM
3COM 3C770A FDDIcontroller/EISA
Netware 3.11 with update patches applied (i.e. virtually Netware 3.12)

Thanks in advance / Kelvin

We've used the DECpc XL Server line for NetWare Certifying the DEFEA
controllers. If the customer is having problems with both the DEFEA
and 3C770 controllers running on the DECpc XL Server, then there's
likely to be something wrong with the system or the OS on that system.
