1921.0. "SMT Version Interoperability?" by SWANDC::MAUTZ (Networks >= to DECnet) Thu Jan 04 1996 11:05
I have read through the topics in this conference regarding
interoperability between some versions of SMT (at least
as far as 6.2, 7.2, and 7.3). However, what my customer
wants to know is what difficulties might be encountered
with mixed versions of SMT. They have various HP, SUN,
Digital, and 3Com products in their network.
What I have read seems to indicate that there should be inter-
operability between these three levels. Also, one note indicated
that 7.3 was simply textual changes and commenting and was technically
the same as 7.2. Are these conclusions correct?
Can someone give an overview of the at least the above 3 version
of SMT - from the perspective of what features/functions/
bug fixes got added to successive version. I guess I need to
find the SMT standards and read them - but someone with experience
with this area might have some practical insights!
Thanks,
Richard

| You may want to contact the FDDI Consortium at the UNH Interoperability
Labs. UNH has tested interoperability between various vendor HW and SMT
releases, so they may be able to provide the data you're looking for.
Their Web site is:
http://www.iol.unh.edu/consortiums/fddi/fddi_consortium.html
and email/contact information is there.
