When dual-homed links fails over from active link to standby link,
would ring initialization occur?
Is there a list of causes that trigger ring init (for better
understanding when ring init occurs)?

Yes.
Anything that breaks the ring will cause beaconing on the ring. Some,
but not limited to, conditions that can cause an init are:
- systems powering up or down
- insertion or removal of a fiber or UTP
- token timer expiration
- FDDI chip set reseting under heavy loads, ie. AT&T chip in SBus NIC's
- primary ring failure and restoration back to primary ring

Minor correction -
Beaconing will not occur in a properly functioning ring. Claims will
occur, but if you get as far as a baecon something isn't right.
Its probably a typo.
