1864.0. "High idle FDDI network utilization " by TOSSUB::BRUSA () Tue Nov 14 1995 09:45
We have a very simple configuration a DECswitch 900EF DAS connected
with an DEFEA on a AXP 1000 station running OpenVMS 6.2.
Other systems are connected to the Ethernet ports of the switch.
We have Hubwatch version 4.1.
Monitoring with Hubwatch the FDDI network, every 8/10 minutes the
FDDI network utilization goes on an average between 10/40% stays
there for one minute and aftewards goes down to <1%.
In the same minute on the FDDI port we have an 80/100% of frame
filtered.
While we can understand the frame filtered on the FDDI port we
cannot understand why we have such and high network
utilization without any customer generated traffic and the FDDI
is just idle. Can anybody explain this please?
We disabled the ring purger on the switch and on the DEFEA but no
difference.
This entry is crossposted in the HUB_MGMT and in the FDDI conferences
