1858.0. " 170003-GF Spec??" by KERNEL::ANSONR () Mon Nov 06 1995 12:03

    Hi,

    Has anybody heard of a standard specification for fibers called
    170003-GF. Apparently we mention it in one of our DecConcentrator 500
    documents. Does anybody have any information on the spec??

    Thanks

1858.1Single-mode fiber spec.NPSS::KIRKMon Nov 06 1995 13:209
    The document in question is likely to be the internal Digital
    specification for single-mode optical fibers. The SMF described is the
    standard dispersion-unshifted variety that is available from most fiebr
    vendors. I can pull together the pertinent details, but I think if you
    do a  dir/title=single, you'll find the details.

1858.2Thanks But...KERNEL::ANSONRTue Nov 07 1995 05:0612
    Thanks Dick for the info,

    The spec in question is 170003-GS the customer says and can be found in
    Multimode option card installation for the DecConcentrator 500' manual
    on page A-2. Unfortunately I haven't got this manual. So it seems
    likely it is a spec for multimode fibers???

    Got any ideas where this sepc might be kept??

    Sorry to be a pain

    We wrote 2 General Specifications for Optical Fibers - one for
    multimode and one for single-mode. The spec numbers are:

    	17-10003-GS  Optical Fiber, Dispersion Un-shifted Single-mode

    	17-10002-GS Optical Fiber, 62.5/125 micron, 0.275 NA, Graded
    		     Index

    These documents do not seem to have been loaded into the new CIMS
    database. I will continue to seek out how they can be obtained.

    I have extracted the pertinent details, if that will help. The specs
    were written to meet the requirements of the FDDI PMD documents. Most
    cable and fiber vendors will understand if their customers ask for FDDI
    grade optical cable.

    The DECconcentrator 500 had single-mode options as well as multimode
    options, so your customer could use either.

    Let me know if you need the specification details.

    Thanks Dick for all your help on this one,

    Could you possibly mail me the both fiber specs.

    Thanks again,
