| 1852.1 | Need support from Field | NPSS::KIRK |  | Thu Nov 02 1995 08:42 | 12 |
| | This could be done, and fairly easily. Our product management team is
    concerned about changing SMF connectors AGAIN. Would this present a
    problem to our customers? Would we have to supply ST to SC adapters in
    order for them to attach to their cable plants? What would be the
    selling points for the SC SMF modpmd?

    I need feedback from our field people in order to make this SC SMF
    modPMD a product. Prototypes could be done REALLY quickly. REALLY!

| 1852.2 | Only if EVERY fiber PMD went SC | STRWRS::KOCH_P | It never hurts to ask... | Thu Nov 02 1995 18:17 | 8 |

    What would be the purpose of the change? We already offer ST-SC cables
    and the new DECconcentrator 900FH is also ST, so there is some
    consistency. Personally, I'd like to see the MMF PMDs go ST also and
    then we would be consistent all around.

    I'd only support this if ALL FDDI connections were made SC for
    consistency. Can you make this happen?

| 1852.3 | SC vs ST -- are you mixing them up? | NETCAD::MELARAGNI |  | Fri Nov 03 1995 08:05 | 7 |
| | Are you confusing ST with SC? The DECconc 900FH is a 12 ports of SC
    ("square connector"), *not* ST ("straight tip").

    The trend *is* to move towards one connector type, the SC. This
    includes MMF and SMF.

    Ah, I guess I wasn't paying attention. I thought they said the DC900FH
    was ST connectors, but the fact that they are SC heartens my spirit.
    So, if this is the case, I would support creating an SC version of the
    SMF PMD since it is out of synch with current products.
