1830.0. "UNIX, DEFTA-UA can't load LPS20 via bootp" by CSC32::B_GRUBBS () Tue Oct 10 1995 19:08
I have a customer that is having trouble with bootp from Digital UNIX
using a DEFTA-UA, booting an LPS20.
It seems to be something about the devices on their fddi ring or
the Cisco cddi/fddi concentrator they are using. The log files
on UNIX indicate a bootp request was heard from the LPS20 and that
a response is set but the LPS20 eventually just times out.
They can load the LPS20 via a 10BaseT interface on that same UNIX
box no problem, but then that totally bypasses the fddi ring because
they plug into the 3Com lanplax (shown below).
Using the DEFTA-UA they say they have no other tcpip connectivity
trouble with telnet and ftp for instance......and they can even
send print jobs via tcpip to the LPS20 provided it has already been loaded.
I'm attaching the topology drawing below. If anyone has any ideas
I'd appreciate hearing them.
Working on getting sniffer traces and setting them up with tcpdump
on the UNIX machine to see what happens during the bootp sequence.
thanks,
