A customer has the following FDDI components : 2 x FDDI concentrator 500 2 x FDDI bridge 600 1 x FDDI bridge 500 4 x FDDI controller DEMFA in VAX6000 All firmware was below revision. We upgraded the firmware of de bridges to V1.5 and concentrators to V3.4a with DECnduplus without any problem. Upgrade of the DEMFA to V2.0 resulted in the next error : DECNDU: ERROR STATUS = Network failure to send packet. The command we used on the VAX is : DOWNLOAD LOAD /RESET/CONFIRM FXA0: MOM$LOAD:DEMFA020.SYS We got the same error when we do a DOWNLOAD SHOW DEVICE FXA0: The VAX6000 is configured with LAT on the DEMFA and DECNET on the DEBNI. Can any body tell me if I need DECNET configured on the DEMFA to do the download. If not, can any body tell me why we get the Network failure to send packet error. Wil.

Some extra information. We configured a system with DECnet for the DEFMA and we got the same error. So can any body tell me what this error means. The DEMFA's we want to upgrade have version V1.2, 2 x V1.3 and one with V1.4. The system we used for test has VMS V5.5-1 and DEMFA V1.4. Wil.

Just a guess, shouldn't you need MOP to upgrade the DEMFAs ? Pedro PAIVA Network Support Team

You have to use the switch (/ADADTER? /CONTROLLER?) to tell it the device itself and not use MOP.

One gotcha I ran into, if machine is VAX 6000 class you need to unlock the XMI bus by turning the lower key switch on the front of the cpu to "UPDATE". This may not be your problem. Rene' |
