1776.0. "ring inits on 3000-900/osf" by CSC32::SCHLABS () Wed Aug 09 1995 18:22
Hi,
I have a customer who is running osf v3.0b on a 3000-900
with an fddi card and is part of a fairly big ring. He says
that they recieve series of ring inits (generally 5 or 10
every hour), but only if the 3000-900 is up. If it is down,
now other system gets the ring init messages. Nothing is
in uerf, and nothing more informative than the ring init
in /var/adm/messages.
He says he has talked to someone, also with the same card/cpu,
that sees the same problem. I asked him to try a new board,
but he was reluctant and wanted some better ways to pin it
down.
thanks,
greg

If you can, check to see if the connections completed counter is
toggling at either the card, or the port at the other end of that link.
You want to determine if the PHY link is bouncing up and down
or if the problem is limited to the MAC.
Another thing to check is whether there are any beacons being seen.
Do you know if they have an fddi analyzer? Some of what I'd
suggest next would need an analyzer.
