We have the following challenge:
There are boxes on the same FDDI ring:
2 * OSF v3.0 rev 347 NFS v3/v2 servers DEC3000-600 fw 6.0 DEFTA fw v2.4a
4 * OSF v3.2a NFS clients DEC3000-400 fw 6.0 DEFTA fw v2.4a
1 * IBM RS6000/580 AIX v3.2.5 NFS client
1 * CISCO AGS+
1 * PC router (Schneider & Koch)
Now, every now and then, OSF NFS servers get error messages, not at
the same time, like...
May 22 16:18:15 korppu vmunix: fta0: Link Unavailable.
May 22 16:18:15 korppu vmunix: rfs_dispatch: sendreply failed
May 22 16:18:17 korppu vmunix: fta0: Halted.

So, my questions are:
Q1: What does it mean ?
Q2: What does "fta0: Halt Reason (4):" mean ?
Q3: Who is the victim ?
Q4: What happens on DEFTA at that time ?

So would I! I get the same problem at a customer site, at frequent intervals. This is interfering with acceptance tests we are currently running. The error messages are the same. The configuration is: 3 x Sables with DEFEA 1 x DECconcentrator 900 all plugged into the customer's FDDI ring. The error always occurs on the same system, even when swapping boards with the other systems. Thanks for your help! Jean-Christophe | |||||

Can you make sure that the DEFEA's are running the latest firmware
(v2.46)? There's an Intel-based kit for upgrading the firmware in
KALI::PCDRIVERS:[DEFEA.RELEASE]FEFW240.ZIP. I'd also verify that the
latest drivers are in use. For Windows NT on Alpha, that would be
v1.57.
