Hey...the REAL question is whether the Sable (AlphaServer 2100) is "man
enough" for FDDI! :-)
Yes, you can safely run FDDI in the Alpha servers. The performance is
good and there are tons of customers out there running this
configuration.

Up to the operating system. Check with the clustering and OS folks.

| You can try Tim Cerling (LURE::CERLING). He's spent a lot of time
configuring the FDDI controllers in 2100's for a big contract with Best
Buy. Also, you may want to check the Sable Notes conference
(MVBLAB::SABLE) for notes that include the DEFPA.

| While we are on the same topic, I have a customer that wants to
create a "hot backup" site for one of his computers at another site.
Here is the scenario:
Customer is running some applications presently on a DEC7610 and
there is a 56K line between this site and another 3100-80 at the
airport site.
What these guys want to do is upgrade the 3100 for a sable, and
then cluster over FDDI (available soon instead of the 56k line) to the
7610 site. These guys want to make the 2100 a pathworks server as well
as the primary system for some of the applications, but want to have
a copy of the data in case there is something down at the airport.
It seems fine to me, but I'm assuming the 2100 would be a satellite
node on the 7610 cluster, and that some sort of volume shadowing would
be possible at the 7610 site. These guys are planning this as a
disaster recovery solution, where if something happens, they make a 10
minute car drive, come back to the 7610 site nad resume their work.
Is this possible or am I dreaming?

or perhaps OpenVMS conference that can answer some of these questions.
