Cross posted in VAXAXP::VMSNOTES I'm trying to update the firmware on a DEFEA card from 2.3 to 2.46 on an Alpha 2100 runing VMS 6.1 using LANCP. I'm using the command $MC LANCP UPDATE DEV FRA0/FILE=filename as suggested in note 1672.4. However the command is failing after about 2 minutes with a 'cannot update lan device running cluster communications' I have checked under SDA that SCA is not running on the DEFEA (infact no protocol is running on the DEFEA). I then rebooted my 2100 so that no protocols were started on any device but it still failed with the above error message. I had a quick look at the listings for LANCP UPDATE and the FRDRIVER and it seems that its failing with SS$_UNSUPPORTED. The only place I could find this in the LANCP listings are around the checks for the SCA protocol in the upgrade section of the FRDRIVER. Has anbody got LANCP working correctly and if so what needs to be done to get it working? Thanks in advance POL.

See note 1672.*. The only problem was not having the right file (note that the wrong and misleading error message was displayed as well). - Dick |
