Is there documentation to tell me how to: 1. Find out the firmware revision on an EISA FDDI on a Digital 2100 running OpenVMS? 2. What the most current firmware revision is for this card? 3. If it's not current, where do I get the most current firmware? 4. How do I update the card if it's running on an OpenVMS system on a Digital 2100? Thanks, Ted

Ted, There may be a way to tell which version of firmware you're running. Which console does the 2100 use? (Sorry, I don't do a lot of work with the Alpha family systems..) There are 2 different varieties of the DEFEA card in existence. Most likely, you have a more recent version which uses v2.46 firmware. You can get the most current firmware from: KALI::PCDRIVERS:[000000.DEFEA.RELEASE]FEFW240.ZIP;1 This .zip file contains the most recent firmware and a utility that will update the firmware on the card. The utility will tell you which version of firmware is currently loaded on the card as well. The only "gotcha" is that this utility works only on Intel/DOS based systems. So, you have to take the adapter out of your Alpha system, bring it to a DOS box, and do the update using DECblast. A firmware upgrade utility for Alpha systems is in the works but not ready yet. -Brenda

1. Find out the firmware revision on an EISA FDDI on a Digital 2100 running OpenVMS? Do $ ANA/SYS then SHOW LAN/DEV=FRA and the HW Version field shows the firmware revision. Or do an MC LANCP SHOW DEV FRA/REV (in V6.2). 4. How do I update the card if it's running on an OpenVMS system on a Digital 2100? Do $ MC LANCP UPDATE DEV FRA0/FILE=filename (in V6.1 and later)

******************************** FYI ************************************ ******************************** FYI ************************************ ******************************** FYI ************************************ The firmware upgrade kit mentioned in 1672.1 is *ONLY* for Intel-based systems running DOS. The files contained in that kit are *NOT* to be used with any other firmware upgrade utility for any other platform. Please read the online documentation in that kit for more details. Note: Do NOT use the firmware images included in the DECBLAST kit with the LANCP utility described in 1672.4. LANCP requires firmware images in a different file format. - Larry |
