I have a VAX 4000-705A with an ethernet controller. I have just added a DEFQA-SF and I ran sysgen and configured it as per the installation manual. I cannot see this device from the console prompt but I can see it when the machine is running VMS (V6.1). I cannot, however, see it in NCP. $ mc sysgen SYSGEN> SHOW/CONFIG System CSR and Vectors on 28-APR-1995 16:01:47.20 Name: PAA Units: 1 Nexus:0 (CI ) Name: PAB Units: 1 Nexus:1 (CI ) Name: EZA Units: 1 Nexus:2 (NI ) Name: FQA Units: 1 Nexus:3 (UBA) CSR: 761400 Vector1: 300 Vector2: 304 SYSGEN> EXIT $ show dev Device Device Error Volume Free Trans Mnt Name Status Count Label Blocks Count Cnt R7BKFF$DIA0: Mounted 0 OPENVMS061 2343117 141 1 R7YM2E$DIA1: Online 0 Device Device Error Name Status Count FTA0: Offline 0 OPA0: Online 0 RTA0: Offline 0 RTB0: Offline 0 RTC0: Offline 0 Device Device Error Name Status Count EZA0: Online 0 FQA0: Online 62 PAA0: Online 0 PAB0: Online 0 $ show dev/full FQA0: Device FQA0: is online, network device, error logging is enabled, device is a template only. I am not sure if DECnet was updated in V6.1 to recognize the DEFQA (FQDRIVER). If it was, then you will have to run NETCONFIG for it to be added to the DECnet permanent database. Or you can add it manually (line/circuit name FQA-0). If DECnet was not updated to recognize the DEFQA, then the release notes (for V6.1) should tell you what to do. Basically, create a system wide logical like FXA0 to be FQA0 and then use the line/circuit name MFA-0. As for the consoles, I don't believe they are being modified to recognize the DEFQA.

Re -.1 Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the release notes don't mention the DEFQA so can you tell me exactly what I need to do please? Thanks, Eddie.

I haven't tried this, but I think something like this will allow you to run DECnet over the DEFQA: $ DEFINE /SYSTEM /EXEC FXA0 FQA0 $ MCR NCP NCP> DEFINE LINE MFA-0 STATE ON NCP> DEFINE CIRCUIT MFA-0 STATE ON Or you can simply DEFINE FXA0 on the system and run NETCONFIG. Mike
