1624.0. "FDDI circuit bouncing with buffersize 4468" by 52445::EREZ () Wed Mar 15 1995 06:12

Hello ,
One of our customers is suffering from decnet problems over the FDDI.

The configuration was:
3 * VAX 7640 connected to the FDDI ring through Concentrator 500,with
buffersize of 4468 ,VMS V6.1 & decnet phase IV .This configuration works
without any problem.

When we add to this concentrator 3 * VAXstations model 4090 with VMS 6.1,
FDDI Controler-DEFZA and line buffersize 4468, we encounter problems .The
3 VAX 4090 decnet circuit start bouncing (up and down, - Synchronize) and
the green light on the controller start blinking.
After seting the circuit to state off, the light is steady green and LAT
works on the fddi without problems.
When we change the buffersize to 1498, on one of the VAX 4090, the decnet
works without problems on all the computers.

The problem statment is :
Decnet phase IV circuit on the 4090 with DEFZA controler is bouncing .
We can fix it by changing buffersize to 1498 on one VAX 4090 (doesn't matter
which of them).
This problem does not effect the 3 * VAX7640 with the DEMFA controler
connecting to the same ring.

Regards,  Erez

I would suspect that NETACP does not have enough quota for the larger buffer
size. I don't have the formula off hand, but it can be found in the Networking
Manual of the doc set on how to figure the quota's for NETACP.

1624.3Increasing BYTLM required by NETACP52445::EREZMon Mar 20 1995 11:247
Hi ,

We already tried to increase the BYTLM required by NETACP process by define
the logical NETACP$BUFFER_LIMT to 130000 and the problem didn't change.

Thanks for any help,
Erez.

    Just a guess but I remember seeing a problem like this caused by the
    SYSGEN parameter, MAXBUF, being set too low. The default is 2048.
    Try increasing to 8192 if its at the default of 2048.

Thanks Bill, You got it .
The problem was MAXBUF too low. Increasing to 8192 solved the problem.
