Hi,

I have 2 problems which someone might be able to help me with:

1) A customer has 2 4000-90A running vms 5.5-2H4 with DEFTA-FA. He has a 
problem with DECNET circuit bouncing up and down. The original configuration
was through a Deconcentrator 500. In order to minimize the network we connected
them back to back through a fiber optic cable but the problem got worse and the
Decnet circuit bounced up and down every few seconds. Is this temporary 
connection we made valid? 

2) We also have a customer with a Decstation 5200 Ultrix 4.2 and DEFZA-CA.
(STP connection). Can we connect this machine to an IBM RS6000 A or B port
without using a concentrator? The IBM has a DAS controller.

	It looks like the FDDI adapter never saw ring available. I'd suggest connecting a loopback connector to it or checking the lights on the back of it per the documentation with the the device to ensure it is connected properly to the ring. - Dick

	Following is the configuration we use: vax 4000-90A vax 4000-90A ----------- ------------ \| T\|________ __________\|T \| \| DEFTA-FA \| \/ \| DEFTA-FA \| \| R\|________/\__________\|R \| ----------- ------------ When system is booted the LED is steady green, when the circuit comes up the LED is blinking green (No cable attached). When we try to connect loopback to one of the DEFTA's we get the same prob. Replacing the DEFTA didn't help. Is this is a legal configuration ? can it work without a concentrator ? Does this configuration with vs4000-90A supported under vms v5.5-2H4 ? Erez.

	I believe that point to point configurations does not work in the OpenVMS VAX FDDI drivers. That feature was added to the OpenVMS AXP FDDI drivers; but not OpenVMS VAX. Dick Stockdale will correct me if I'm wrong.
