1576.0. "DEFZA ring initializations?" by CSC32::J_SOBECKI (John Sobecki, DTN 592-4101, CXO3-2/D2) Tue Feb 07 1995 14:40

    Hello,

    VAXStation 4000-90, VMS V6.1, DEFZA getting millions of ring
    initializations received, over a 30 minute period. Then it quits and
    may not show up again for 1-2 days,

    Three systems (4000-90s) with DEFZAs are the only systems on the ring
    getting these errors. The problem spans 2 concentrators (Cabletron)
    and does not show up on other 4000-90s that have DEFTA adapters, which
    are members of the same VAXcluster.

    SHOW LAN/FULL in SDA shows the DEFZA device version of 01050014.

    No LEM errors are being reported on any of the other stations.

    Any ideas or a direction in which to proceed?

    Thanks,
    John Sobecki

    Note sure if this is your problem or it is what you want to hear but,

    I'm 99.9% sure that if you look in the VMS 6.1 release notes you'll see
    that the DEFZA is not supported.

1576.2Unsupported on V6.1?CSC32::J_SOBECKIJohn Sobecki, DTN 592-4101, CXO3-2/D2Tue Feb 07 1995 16:0119

    Hi Bill,

    I don't mind hearing it's not supported. I reviewed the OpenVMS VAX
    V6.1 Cover Letter and Release Notes. Nothing either way about the
    DEFZA being supported, or about support being withdrawn.

    We have an internal article that shows the DEFZA supported from
    V5.5-2HW thru V6.1. Oops. That *can* be corrected, if it's in
    error.

    I've logged a service call with the field; we'll see if they bring out
    a DEFTA to replace the DEFZA.

    If I did an IPMT on this, would the answer be: Unsupported on V6.1,
    replace with a DEFZA?

    Thanks for the quick reply,
    John

    Open an IPMT case and we'll take a closer look; I know MSE has worked
    some other DEFZA issues and fixed some fw problems. I'll try to get an
    answer from VMS on support of the DEFZA in 6.1

    The SPD's for VMS 6.1 (SPD 25.01.41) and  VAXcluster 6.1 (SPD 29.78.08)
    both refer to the DEFZA as a supported device.
