Could someone please give me a description of the SC connector as used
on the DEFPA FDDI modules, does it look like the ST connector ? Why is
    it now being used ?

Oh, if I only had a dollar for everyone who's asked...

The SC connector is NOT a MIC connector and it is NOT a ST connector.
The closest name I can give it is "mini-MIC". It's about 1/3 the size
of the ANSI MIC, but uses the same multi-mode cable and has the same
distance limitations (2Km). The SC connector is the same one we're
using on our ATM TURBOchannel adapter and our ATM switches.

The reasons we went to this are

    	- smaller feature size
    	- smaller cost
    	- our suppliers told us to

Companies like AT&T and Siemens are telling us to move our designs
    towards using the SC connectors.

... and the SC duplex has a larger vendor base.

Look for the SC duplex in a high density hub concentrator as well as on ATM
multi-mode products. Also several vendors have committed to providing SC duplex
LASERs as well.

The SC connector is specified in TIA/EIA 568-A. It can be a
simplex or duplex connector. The duplex connector has a .5" center
spacing between connector ferrules. The SC connector is keyed.
Open Decconnect will be supplying cables for MIC to SC, SC to SC, and
ST to SC. There will also be a SC to SC insert for the patch panel.

Do you know when the cables for MIC to SC will be available?
Do you know of any other supplier of such cables?

	Regards,
