1520.0. "point to point FDDI ?" by LYOISA::GAUDIEZ () Mon Dec 05 1994 10:34

I need to connect two DECstation 3000-900 point to point by FDDI.
My customer wants fiber optical media.

Can you tell me if :

DEFTAA-AA can support point to point connection

    		a/ with OpenVMS
    		b/ with OSF/1

In this configuration, Does Full Duplex work between the two
    stations.

Can you confirm me if E0-BN24E-** is the reference for connect the
    	two station in FO.

    Thanks for your help.

Between OSF/1 systems it will work. It should work with VMS but only
if they have fixed their bug which prevented it from working.

I did the same thing with OpenVMS AXP and 2 DEFTA's about six months
and it worked just great. Just don't try to add a third station.
    It just doesn't work.

Unless all three are connected directly to a Digital GIGAswitch which
supports FDDI FDX mode on a per port basis.

1520.4point to point with DEFEA ?LYOISA::GAUDIEZMon Dec 12 1994 09:5612

I need to connect two AlphaServer 2100 4/275 within a FDDI link (Fiber
    Optical).

I have the same questions that 1520.0.

Does DEFEA-AA interface support point to point connection, with OpenVMS
    and with OSF/1.

What is the PMD for this interface.

    Yes.

The DEFEA-AA uses an ANSI MIC multi-mode fiber transceiver. You'll
need a MIC-to-MIC cable that does the appropriate crossover.

    Thanks for your help.
But I have another question about cable.
In my catalogue, the FO cable MIC to MIC is BN24b-xx but it is now not
available, it is in maintenance statut. Can you give me the new
    reference for this cable.

1520.7What cable for point to point UTP FDDI ?12368::"[email protected]"Jeff DickensThu May 30 1996 11:109
A third party testing firm has two systems we leased for them to
test some software for us.

They have DEFPA-UA's in both, and are running Digital Unix.

What cable should they use for a point-to-point connection?

Thanks...

>>What cable should they use for a point-to-point connection?

The same cable they use for any other connection (cross-over Category 5
    UTP).

If you need a Digital part #, try BN25H.
