Hi Gurus, Digital India's most prestigeous customer " Super Computing Research Center" wants to use his GIGAswitch/FDDI in following DualHoming FDDI configuration. He wants primary (active) links to be on gigaswitch ( so he can enjoy the benefits of FDDI switching by GIGASwitch) and standby links on his FDDI concentrator ( if Gigaswitch fails , connection via FDDI concentrator become active ). FGL-2 card will be configured as M ports for dual homing. Release notes do not talk about this kind of configuration. +---------------+ +---------------+ ========! GigaSwitch !===============! Is it a valid configuration? Is it a supported conguration? Will failover ( standby ) links work in this config? Switching timing in failover situtaion? What issues , you see in this configuration? Your opnion about this config ? Thanx in advance for any help / Pointers. If you need any more inputs from me pls let me know. Pls help . Regards, Pankaj PS: CrossPosted in Gigaswitch and FDDI notes.

I replied in the GIGAswitch notes conference in more detail, the quick summary is that it will work, but note that because GIGAswitch/FDDI ports are bridge ports, the B->A and A->B transitions have different implications (possible spanning tree reconfiguration, 802.1d preforwarding and GIGAswitch port initialization). |
