1484.0. "SMF/MMF converter for ATM" by VAXRIO::ROLF (Vaporware Design Specialist) Tue Oct 25 1994 09:40
(This is cross-posted in the FDDI, FIBER_OPTIC_LAN, ATM, GIGASWITCH and DNT
notefiles)
We need to interconnect a CISCO-router with a GIGAswitch/ATM through some
15 Km of Single Mode Fiber at ATM/155Mbs.
The GIGAswitch/ATM offers at present only a MULTI-mode interface for ATM (the
CISCO router offers both). The solution obviously is to use two external
SMF/MMF-converters, and that is where the problem is:
WHO BUILDS A SMF/MMF CONVERTER THAT RUNS ATM @ 155 Mbs?
O have contacted ODS, but theirs only is good for FDDI.
Does anyone know of any other vender for this box? (Phone number appreciated)
Thanks for any help.
Rolf (DEC Brazil)
P.S. We CANNOT wait for DEC to come out with a SMF PMD for the GIGAswitch/ATM.

See the answer to this in the GIGAswitch notesfile.
It says we have SMF ATM today.
