1412.0. "DEFTA-UA supported at a VS4000/90 with VMS ???" by VNASWS::HONISCH (Guenter Honisch NSTC Austria) Tue Jul 26 1994 10:33

Is the FDDI UTP adapter DEFTA-UA supported at a VS4000/90 with VMS ???

I guess there should be no difference to a FO Version, but who knows...

The new DEFTAs do not report themselves to the OS as the original
DEFTAs. Because of this, the OS bus support code has to be modified to
support the new DEFTAs. This bus support code has not been added to
OpenVMS VAX. In addition to this, a workaround to the new DEFTAs would
have to be added to the DEFTA driver (to prevent an undetectable data
corruption problem in the new DEFTAs).

This workaround and the bus support has been applied to OpenVMS AXP
but not to OpenVMS VAX (two different engineering sub-groups).

Customer bought 20 Vaxstation 4000-90 with DEFTA-UA interfaces. Him
was told, that it is possible to boot over the DEFTA-UA. As far as i
can see, they have to implement the patch from note 1221.14, to have the
O/S support this interfaces at all, and that there is no boot support
from this interfaces in OpenVMS VAX.
    Are this informations correct?
Will there be boot support over this interfaces implemented within
    OpenVMS VAX?

>> Are this informations correct?

Yes, there is no FDDI boot support for any FDDI adapter on any VAX system
in any release now and in the future.

Never.
