I am looking for help with a couple of questions raised by a customer who is building a Network Control Station based on an Alpha 3000/600S with multiple network connections including FDDI. This system will need to monitor all Network traffic therefore "promiscuous mode" on the FDDI is required. Is this supported on the DEFTA with OVMS and how is it set up ?? The system also has to monitor VME based FDDI cards and for some reason the customer needs to know what ver of MAC we support and if possible what chip set we use, is it proprietry or from AMD ??? Finally if using TCP/IP they achieve thru puts of 50Mbs will the Alpha processor be able to handle this amount of data as well as doing other tasks ???

All our adapters support promiscuous mode (as do all the Ethernet adapters). Alphas should have no trouble at all keeping up with 50 Mb TCP traffic. Our adapters use our own MAC design, which is also the one sold by Motorola. Not that it makes any difference; they should all conform to the FDDI standard... paul |
