Gidday, I have a customer who has 5 5000/260's with DEFTA's Running V4.3A. Apparently he received the DEFTA support kit from the salesman so it would work on this version. Depending on the traffic the DEFTA's will fail with the following, a "netstat -i" will show "fta0*" which apparently indicates that it is not configured. Then when they do an "ifconfig fta0" they get "timeout in command request" twice then "unable to set recieve filters on network adapter" followed by "check hardware". If they reboot the system all will go fine for up to 4 days (we think that it is traffic related) when it will then fall over again with the same message. This seems to be since the installation of the machines, however up till recently they have not had much load. We have applied the /usr/sys/MIPS/BINARY/if_fza.o from the ULTRIX patchkit on GURU:: about two weeks ago, but it does not seem to have helped the problem. Any help would be appreciated, Dave Reinhold, TSC, Sydney, Australia.

| 1395.1 | Try this unofficial driver update | SCHOOL::PAQUETTE | Tue Jul 12 1994 08:55 | 36 | |
Hi,
First, please make sure you are using DEFTA-FA ONLY. Other variants of DEFTA
are not supported under ULTRIX at this time.
Second, There is a test version of the driver that has been made available.
See below. While this driver is for V4.4, the developer has let us know that
it will work on V4.3a and its derivations.
Third, isn't the /usr/sys/MIPS/BINARY/if_fza.o for DEFZA? not DEFTA?
Regards,
Mike P.

IN anticipation of your request, I have built a replacement if_fta.o
from the V4.5 sources against the V4.4 system and have placed the resulting
file on:
guru:/usr/guest/misc/if_fta.o.Z
you may grab this at any time and make it available to the customer to
see if it solves their problems. This is not yet an official replacment
file, so advise them to keep a copy of their distributed if_fta.o.
Please contact me if there are any problems.

RE: .1
I have a customer who is experiencing the exact same problem as
described in .0. The if_fta.o module is still on GURU. Should I send
this module to the customer?
Thanks in advance,

Yes, I've updated it with the official patch file, which you
should ask of the CSC. The official patch info follows:
==============================================================================
/sys/MIPS/BINARY/if_fta.o
CHECKSUM: 09168 195
----------------------
Patch id: ULTV44-017-1
This replacement module corrects several bugs including one
which can cause a system hang and one which could cause a
system panic. Additionally, some minor performance enhancements
have been included and code has been added to more completely
identify the DEFTA module type.
A kernel rebuild is required.
