1295.1 | A little more info please.. | MAVRIC::POST | Network backed up? Give it more fiber, DEC FDDIcontroller/EISA | Tue Mar 29 1994 11:52 | 20 |
| Howdy,
I'll look to this, and get back to you soon, but it looks
like the driver has crashed. For what reason I am not really sure.
However your system is shown using a Adaptec 1540, and I beleve that
you need to add the switch above16=y when loading that driver on a system
with more than 16 MB of memory.
While I am looking into this on the same system type that you have
could you verify that you have added the ABOVE16=Y switch. Also make
sure that the revision of the DECMSL3X.MSL is V1.03....
Also what version of the DE422 Driver are you using?
Thanks,
-Don

| Hello Don,
Thanks for fast reply. I tried to use above16=y switch
with aha1540 and got same result.
Drivers versions: DECMSL3X.MSL 1.03, 11/01/94
DEPCA.LAN (DE422) 1.00 25/09/92
We've decided to use DE204 instead of DE422 and get following result:
after Activate Server "IPX Network 00000500 is no longer
returning status check packets"
Load Command Input:
Load ewrk3
bind ipx to ewrk3
load decmsl3x
load aha1540 int=b above16=y port=330
Thanks for support,
Serhey

1295.3 | Later DEPCA driver available... | MAVRIC::POST | Network backed up? Give it more fiber, DEC FDDIcontroller/EISA | Tue Mar 29 1994 13:50 | 11 |
| Howdy,
I have not yet had a chance to reproduce this but I did notice that
you are using an old rev of the depca driver. There is a driver on
KALI::PCDRIVERS:EWRK2SRVR.ZIP that contains the latest certified DEPCA
Netware Server driver (Version V1.12 (930217)).
You might want to give this a try.... I hope to try to reproduce this
somtime this afternoon...

1295.4 | All runs fine here.... | MAVRIC::POST | Network backed up? Give it more fiber, DEC FDDIcontroller/EISA | Tue Mar 29 1994 18:22 | 79 |
| Hi,
Well I was able to set up two MTE 486/66 DX systems with the
configuration following listed below. I was not able to reproduce the
problem. I did see however the "IPX Not Returning Status Check
Packets" message. This was due to the fact that I had one card jumpered
for Thin Wire and the other for Twisted Pair, when I wanted both to be on
Thin Wire. Once I changed the jumper all was okay.
One thing you might try (and we do on all our SFT systems) is bump the
amount of memory allocated to IOENGINE. Strange behavior can occur if
the IOENGINE is low on memory. To increase the IOENGINE memory add the
following command:
SET NEW START ADDRESS FOR UNCLAIMED MEMORY BLOCK = 8000000
This will allocate 8MB for the IOENGINE. Included at the bottom of
this note is what the system config I tested was, the driver dates and
versions. I also included my IOSTART.NCF file.
If there are any other questions just let me know....
-Don

1295.5 | Perhaps DEFEA breakes | UKV02::CHERNISHOFF | | Thu Mar 31 1994 03:53 | 92 |
| Hello Don,
Thanks once again for your support and advice.
I've tried your configuration and add SET NEW UNCLAIMED MEMORY ...,
Also I've copied more fresh DEPCA.LAN drivers from KALI::, but nothing changes.
Also I tested DE422 and DEFEA by tests, MTE by CheckItPro and QAPlus, MSD.
Everything looks like OK with hardware.
Also, we discovered, that situation depends on what server we
would like to use as primary. It looks strange for us, because systems must be same.
When we use anothe system as Primary server, we got following message:
Left As Primary Server:
: Mirrored server to server comm link connection established with other server...
:beginning synchronisation.
: IPX Network 0000500 is no longer returning status check packets.
(RPRimary still works in IOEngine prompt, but dont switch to MSengine prompt)
Right As Secondary Server:
: Mirrored Server synchronisation beginning (this will be the sevondary server)
And then Secondary Server halted without any message.
Another situation :
Right As Primary Server:
:Mirrored server to server comm link connection established with other server ...
beginning synchronisation
(Server normally switched to MSEngine, but if I went back to IOEngine I discovered
following diagnostics:)
:0.0.0 DEFEAMSL: Adapter detected packet memory parity error
DEFEAMSL Adapter Disabled
:IPX route to the other server has been lost
: Mirrored server to server comm link hardware failure during synchronisation
IPX Network 00000500 no longer returning tatus check packets
Left As Secondary Server:
: 0.0.0 IPX Route to the other server has been lost.
: System halted at (Date,time,ets)
Then I decided to exchange DEFEA's between MTE's and effect of
different outputs follows DEFEA's. We think that this effect depends
on DEFEA or in another words one DEFEA failed .
I 've checked versions of hardware and Firmware in both DEFEA, they identical.
Now We are planning to order one more
DEFEA and continue our installation.
What do you think about it ? HAve you seen such strange behavior of DEFEA ?
Any ideas appreciated.
By the way,
Do you have any idea where to get more comprehensive test for DEFEA than Istver ?
Thanks and best regards,
