Reading other notes in this conference the answer to my following question is I think an "YES", but I wish to check again. We are waiting for a Gigaswitch for a customer to be installed soon. In the meantime I wish to know whether we can do the following: We wish to connect the DEMFA in a VAX7610 to a DEMFA in an Alpha DEC 7630 using a BN24B-03 MIC to MIC cable, without any DECconcentrator or DECbridge or Gigaswitch. This is only temporary till we get our Gigaswitch. The above is a SAS port to a SAS port connection and I believe is quite legal. After all, when we do get the Gigaswitch and connect the DEMFA to the Gigaswitch even at that time it will be a SAS to SAS connection. So if this latter is legal why not the direct DEMFA-to-DEMFA connection. Alphonse

The code in the DEMFA driver in OpenVMS VAX is not at its best for operating the device in point to point mode. The driver will wait a good amount of time (over a minute) before trying to join the ring (once it has been unable to do so). The OpenVMS AXP driver will try to form a ring more frequently. You have a good chance that this will work. |
