No replies STRWRS::KOCH_P "It never hurts to ask..." 10 lines 1-MAR-1994 07:24 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There's a lot of FDDI related configs in this file so I thought I would ask. We currently sell the DEFTA-FA which is a Turbochannel SAS FDDI. I want to connect this system DIRECTLY to a DECBridge 900MX (A/B port). Is this legal? I don't want the expense of a concentrator with only 1 system to connect. Or is the DEFTA-DA (FDDI DAS) SUPPORTED? ORDERABLE?

Yes, you can connect a SAS to a DAS, provided the other port of the DAS is not connected to a concentrator. This makes sense for building a configuration analogous to the two-station SAS to SAS setup. It's not a good idea for configurations of any significant size: those should be built with concentrators. paul

I've got a similar config where we would like to share an application server bandwith between 4 to 6 Ethernet supporting client PCs. The customer had previously asked us 4 Ethernet adapters but we wish to propose the following alternative: +---------+ | Server | | | +----+----+ | FDDI | +-------+----------+ | Bridge 900MX | | | +-+--+--+--+--+--+-+ | | | | Ethernet a) In such a situation what are the valid connection combinations: SAS, DAS, FDX b) in case we add a second server, I guess a concentrator-less config is not valid (one server / port A, other / port B). Correct ?

SAS is fine, connect it to the B port of the 900. I wouldn't bother with turning on full-duplex, since you're limited by the Ethernet bandwidth (60 Mb/s). paul
